Robert P. Roth

Mr. Robert Roth of Belleville, IL formerly of Okawville, IL departed this life at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 10:20 P.M. following a sudden illness. He had attained the age of 91 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Robert was born in St. Louis on December 15, 1924 the son of Peter and Anna (nee Tettamble) Roth. He was united in marriage to Melba Paschall in St. Louis on April 26, 1952 and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2006.

Mr. Roth served as a mortar crewman with the Mortar Platoon of the 2nd Battalion of the 194th Regimental Glider Infantry of the 17th Airborne Division of the 18th Airborne Corp of the 1st Allied Airborne Army during WW II, having attained the rank of SGT. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his service. Mr. Roth is a member of VFW Post 5596 and American Legion Post 233 both of Okawville.

Left to mourn his passing is three children, Raymond “Butch” Hugyez of Mesa, AZ, Mary “Betty” Eads of Belleville and Cindy Kuhn and husband Chip of Okawville; a daughter-in-law, Janice Hugyez of Waterloo, IL; a sister, Virginia Ryan of St. Peters, MO; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; his companion, Tricia Clayton; and several nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hugyez who just recently passed away; a grandson, Matthew Hugyez; a daughter-in-law, Loise Hugyez; a son-in-law, Harry Eads; a brother-in-law, James Ryan and numerous other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held from the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 2 P.M. with Fr. Bill McGee officiating. Interment will be in the St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery in Okawville. Military graveside rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 233 of Okawville.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Thursday from 10 A.M. until the service.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight Program and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
