Baseball And Softball All-South Teams Announced
The Southern Illinois Coaches Association announced their All-South teams this past week, for both baseball and softball. Five athletes from NCHS were selected for the All-South Team. Two Nashville Hornettes were selected as Deidra Holzhauer and Mackenzie McFeron were each selected. Three Nashville Hornets were selected on the baseball team as Jaris Dalman, Cody Bauza, and Ryan Brink were all selected.
Holzhauer finished her senior season as one of the best pitchers in the SIRR Conference, and pitched in 33 of Nashville's 35 games this seaon. Holzhauer finished with 207.2 innings pitched and won 22 games for the Hornettes, after winning just 13 games in her career coming into the season. Holzhauer struck out 134 batters on the season and a 2.056 ERA. Holzhauer not only was the Hornettes ace on the mound this season, she also performed at the plate. Holzhauer was second on the team in batting average, and led the team with 39 RBIs on the season.
McFeron developed into a speed threat at the top of the lineup this season. McFeron finished the season with a .556 batting average to lead Nashville, as well as 58 stolen bases, which was just five off the school-record set by Jordi Harre last season.
Dalman finished as one of the top hitters in the Hornets lineup. Dalman finished the season, leading Nashville in on base percentage, RBIs, and walks. Dalman also finished tied for first in singles and triples.
Brink was one of the top pitchers for Nashville this season, finishing with a 7-2 record. Brink led Nashville with 62.2 innings pitched this season, and struck out 64 batters. At the plate Brink finished with a .308 average, two home runs, and 24 RBIs.
Bauza was behind the plate for Nashville this season, leading all regular starters with a .402 average. Bauza finished with a team-high 43 hits on the season, also leading the team with 15 doubles and four home runs on the season. Bauza also led the team in slugging percentage this season.
