Mrs. Hazel Rose Boeschen of Nashville, formerly of Stone Church and Okawville, departed this life at Friendship Manor Healthcare Center in Nashville, on Friday, June 17, 2016 at 12:19 AM. She had attained the age of 89 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Mrs. Boeschen was born on May 13, 1927 in Johannisburg Township, Washington County, the daughter of Erwin and Elsie (nee Joergens) Doelling. She was baptized on June 5, 1927 at Stone Church by Rev. Eggen and was confirmed on April 6, 1941 at Stone Church by Rev. Carl Berger. Hazel was united in marriage to Leslie Edwin Boeschen on September 14, 1947 at Zion United Church of Christ in Addieville, and he preceded her in death on August 17, 1984.

Hazel was a farmer’s wife for 33 years and a school bus driver for 26 years. She served as the Johannisburg Township supervisor for 12 years. She was a longtime active member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Stone Church, where she served on the church board, a member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher. Hazel was a member of the Washington County Home Extension and a longtime honorary member of F.H.A. She was Miss Washington County in 1941 and she loved Big Band Music and danced at Casa Loma and Crystal Ballroom. Hazel was an Okawville High School Music patron and a huge Rocket sports enthusiast and was known for her cheeseballs and chocolate chip cookies for most of the out of town sporting events.

Left to mourn her passing is her three children, William Boeschen and wife Julie, Connie Kuhn and husband Mike and Kathy Barkau and husband Bruce all of Okawville; eight grandchildren, Kyle (Jodi) Klingenberg of Okawville, Crystal (Jeff) Gebke of Germantown, Coral (Mike) Faust and Kelsey (Jeff) Huelsmann all of Breese, Beau (Christine) Barkau of Okawville, Kayla (Eric) Gentz of New Baden, Joel (Brittany Hood) Boeschen of Okawville and Jess Boeschen of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 great grandchildren, Lilly, Kylie, A.J., Riley, Kaelyn, Bailey, Jacob, Drew, Dax and Delaney; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Boeschen of Belleville, and Geraldine Boeschen of Waterloo; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Elwood Doelling and wife Betty; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Boeschen and Vernon Boeschen.

Funeral services were held at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Okawville, on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 with Pastor Jeffrey Schwab officiating and with interment following at the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ cemetery in Stone Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rocket Booster Club the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ of Okawville Piano Fund and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
