Carl Herrmann accepted the gavel and assumed the Presidency of the Hoyleton Lions Club for the 2016-2017 term. 2nd vice-president, Tim Schnitker, opened the meeting with Butch Spenner leading the members in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by singing ‘America.’ Gertrude Holle gave a moving table prayer.

A delicious meal was prepared and served by Geraldine Schnitker and Esther Taylor to Lions’ members and their guests as the meeting was designated as Ladies’ Night. Treasurer John Harris is now accepting 2nd annual dues payments and members may submit their payment to John at the Farmers State Bank, Hoyleton branch.

Ralph Michael, Past District Governor inducted the officers for the club. Ralph detailed their duties and obligations and each Lion accepted their elected role. President Herrmann expressed appreciation of Lion Ralph for his dutiful enlistment of decorum in the installation process. The offices for others not already mentioned: Secretary – Kurt Michael, Membership Chair – Gertie Holle and Tail Twister and Lion Tamer – John Bassen.

Members were recognized during the meeting as thoughts were offered to Willard Gertkemper. A very spirited rendition of He’s a Jolly Good Fellow was sported for Lloyd Spenner as the evening represented his final meeting attendance as he prepares to move to Centralia. And to cap off the fun – Elaine Spenner casually mentioned Butch’s birthday the following day and all voices immediately took up ‘Happy Birthday’ to honor him.

Gertrude Holle was the lottery drawn winner of the 50/50 and donated her winnings to Cole Herrmann’s Eagle Scout project of the gazebo being placed in the Village park.
