Okawville American Legion Raised Money for Disabled Vets

On May 14, the American Legion Post 233, Okawville, held its first annual Military Run to benefit Jefferson Barracks Hospital Veterans.

The event was co- sponsored by the Legion Riders, Germantown American Legion, and Wheels of Freedom, MC, Belleville Chapter.

The event included a motorcycle run, silent auction and live band. The proceeds were raised for the Spinal Center which helps Paralyzed Veterans from all over the United States. This year’s Military Run Event raised $1000 to enable Disabled Vets an opportunity to participate at the Trout Lodge.

The Trout Lodge will provide a chance for Veterans to enjoy outdoor activities and a break from hospital life. “Veteran Adventures “Trout Lodge” goal is to raise the Veterans awareness about the therapeutic effects that being in the outdoors has on the mental and physical disabilities of our country’s wounded men and women. We will also provide a platform for veterans to tell their own stories in their own words.” (Pamphlet for Trout Lodge) The Veterans’ have a chance to hike with track chairs, ski, golf, and many other outdoor activities.

This is one example of how the Okawville American Legion is providing support for our community and the United States military and its veterans. Thank you to those local businesses and individuals who contributed in making this event a success.
