Mr. John Kelly Dierkes, 59, of Pinckneyville, formerly of Greenville, departed this life at his residence on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2:17 AM.
John was born September 17, 1956 in Highland. The oldest son of John D and Joyce E. (Schaufelberger) Dierkes. John married the love of his life, Joyce (Stern) Hagene on September 18, 2004 and enjoyed almost 12 years of marriage.
John attended Central School, Greenville Jr. High and Greenville High School. He was a member of Junior Achievement and he participated in four years of track, having competed in the 100 yard dash, shot put and discus. He also participated in four years of football, playing defensive tackle. John graduated in 1975.
In June of 1975, John went to work at Southwestern Electric on the tree trimming crew. On July 17, 1975, John accepted an apprenticeship to be a journeyman/lineman and worked 25 years for Southwestern retiring and going to work for Donco, J.F. Electric and then Henkels and McCoy until his death. John loved spending time with his family and he enjoyed duck and goose hunting, fishing, tractor pulls and he enjoyed life to the fullest.
John is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Dierkes of Pinckneyville; three daughters, Kelly Weary and husband Curt of Troy, Kristen Roethemeier and husband Tim of St. Jacob and Jonnie Lyn Kapp and husband Kyle of St. Jacob; stepdaughter, Kelli McDonald of Arlington Heights; stepson, Brian Hagene and wife Holli of Warrenville; two granddaughters, Adisyn and Alise; three step grandsons, Patrick, Jake and Carter; one step granddaughter, Kate; two sisters, Karla Dierkes of Greenville, IL, and Kristy Mahoney and husband John of Wimauma, FL; two brothers, Jeff Dierkes and wife Angel of Mulberry Grove, IL and James Dierkes and wife Dee of Greenville, IL; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathy.
Christian burial will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church of Todds Mill, IL on Saturday, August 6 at 11 A.M. with Fr. Augustine Ibezimako, Fr. Bernard Goedde and Rev. Darryl Bolen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home of Nashville on Friday from 5 PM until 8 PM and on Saturday at the church from 9 AM until the service hour.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Bruno Catholic School and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
