May 18, 2016…..school’s out….the student’s most wonderful time of year!

August 15, 2016….school’s open….the parent’s most wonderful time of year!

It is the circle of school life.

Yes, we are back and ready to go for 2016-17!

I want to welcome our students to the “new” NCHS. This should be an exciting year as our school has undergone a major facelift.

A man once commented on his wife’s make-up. He said, “Even an old barn looks better with a new coat of paint”. Nobody has heard from that man since.

NCHS has fresh paint on the walls and lockers but it has added much more. In addition to the physical changes, NCHS has undergone a new spirit. Hornet pride is displayed boldly in the building and will be evidenced in the performance and actions of our students.

Of course, our kids have always been winners. Now, their school looks like a place where winners thrive.

There are many folks who deserve thanks for the transformation. None of them care about receiving the credit.

I am, however, going to call out one group of people who deserve the greatest appreciation from our students and staff. I’m talking about our community of tax payers.

The federal or state government did not provide the resources needed to give our Hornets a proud home. It is the people of District #99 who receive an annual tax bill who have provided the financing. They are investing in our children. They made the transformation possible.

Now, our teachers return on August 12 in preparation for our students to arrive on August 15.

Last year’s juniors are now the King and Queen Hornets. That’s right. Senior royalty!

We especially welcome the newest members of our NCHS family…..our freshmen.

My message to each student from freshman through senior is this: While we are proud of our new look, it is you who is the most important part of our school.

I wish each of you happiness and success during the 2016-17 school year. Be assured that you are cared about on your best days and your worst days.

I declare this year to be the best year of your school life. Now, go out and make my declaration come true!
