Okawville FFA Benefits From Alumni Generosity, Berg Tells Board

By Jill Moon

The Okawville School Board met last Thursday and heard a report from JoshuaBerg, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA Advisor. Highlights were new classes being offered in Landscaping and Turf Management and Greenhouse Production and Floral Design.

Although overall enrollment in agriculture classes has declined slightly for the upcoming school year Berg thought once the school year began it would pick back up.

Berg also commented on the numerous awards and achievements this past year of the Okawville FFA Chapter at the local, district, state and national levels.

Berg expressed much appreciation for the Okawville FFA Alumni and all their contributions, such as buying FFA jackets for each member and shop equipment, among many other donations. He reported last November the Alumni raised over $20,000 at their dinner auction.

Board President Ron Recker reported that concrete work on the baseball diamonds would be finished by the end of last weekend. He also said all buildings were cleaned and ready for the start of the school year.

The board also accepted the resignation of Theresa Thies, grade school Special Education Teacher.
