The Jr. Hornets started play in the O'Fallon Tournament this past week, and finished second in a four-team pool. On August 9, the Jr. Hornets defeated O'Fallon Carriel 2-1 in nine innings of play. Carriel scored their lone run in the top of the first inning. Carriel held the lead until the third when Cole Malawy doubled with two outs, and scored on a grounder by Ian Blazier. The Jr. Hornets won the game in the bottom of the ninth when Camden Ritzel walked, stole second, and scored on an error by the second baseman, on a a ball hit by Zach Kempfer. Jaxon Goforth started the game, and allowed one run in five innings. Aaron Brink pitched one inning in relief, while Kempfer picked up the win with three innings of work. Cole Malawy had two hits.
In their second game of the day, the Jr. Hornets fell to Columbia 7-3 on August 9. Malawy had a great day at the plate with two hits and two runs scored. Ian Blazier had two hits and scored a run. Columbia scored twice in the first, fourth, and sixth, while they scored one run in the third.
On August 11, the Jr. Hornets blew out O'Fallon St. Clare 17-0 in four innings. Malawy had three hits, and scored three runs. Baldwin finished with three hits, one of which was a two-run homer. Baldwin also scored two runs and had four RBIs. Michael Combs had three hits, and scored three runs. Goforth had two hits and scored twice. Preston Dagner had two hits as well. Camden Ritzel was the winning pitcher, as he didn't allow a hit, walked one, hit one, and struck out eight.
