“Men may have invented barbershop, but I like to think that women perfected it,” Rose Straeter, director of the Harmony Roses Barbershop Choir joked to members and guests of the Friends of the Nashville Public Library at their 20th anniversary celebration, held on the afternoon of Saturday, August 20. Following the performance, the friends held an ice cream social as part of their celebration. The Friends of the Library have worked tirelessly for the last 20 years to support and promote the Nashville Public Library. The Friends are always looking for new members. They meet on the third Saturday of every month except for June and July, and coming up on September 22, 23 and 24, they will be holding their fall book sale. For those interested in learning more or joining the Friends of the Library, call the Library at (618) 327-3827. The Harmony Roses are based out of Mt. Vernon and are an official chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Videos of the Harmony roses singing can be found on The Nashville News’ Facebook page.
