The Hoyleton Park Foundation will be placing the order for the Veteran’s Memorial bricks immediately after Labor Day (September 5). Bricks have been purchased for active and deceased members of all branches of our armed Forces. $100 is the purchase price for the laser etched stone and this stone will memorialize your loved one on our beautifully designed Veteran’s Memorial which will be located on the southwest corner of the park. September 10 is recycle day! The Trinity Men’s Club will be collecting newspapers and magazines at the Church Parking lot and the 4H Club will be collecting aluminum at the Village Hall. Both groups hold the collections in the spring and fall and trailers will be available to accept your donations.
A large crowd gathered at the Hoyleton Lions Meeting on August 23. President Carl Herrmann opened the social meeting with Marvin Hake leading the table prayer. Correspondence was read from the family of Eugene Dries for the memorial floral tribute. Eugene was a dedicated member of the Club throughout the years. Craig Suedmeyer reported on the October 15 “Octoberfest” to be held in the park. Raffle tickets are now available for sale. A 2 gun raffle is being conducted with a limit of 600 tickets being sold. The guns can be viewed at Ramsour’s in Centralia. Please contact Craig if you would like tickets to purchase or sell. Thoughts were shared for Ralph Michael who has been recently hospitalized. Members are sending well wishes. Delicious meats were grilled by Tim Schnitker, Matt Kessler, John Harris and Eric Malick. The 50/50 was won by Gertrude Holle who donated her winnings back to the Club. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 13.
Zion Evangelical United Church of Christ will meet in worship Sunday at 10 a.m. Rev. William Causer will explore the scriptures of Jeremiah 10: 1-11 and Philemon 1-21 with a sermon title of ‘Have Your Own Way Lord, Have Your Own Way. You are the Potter, I Am the Clay.’
Zion volunteers are needed at the Food Pantry on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
Rally Day is planned for September 11th with the start of Sunday School for school aged children beginning at 9 a.m. A congregational meeting will be held to adopt new wedding policies for the church, decide the position of the old bell from the steeple and placing it on church property, and to discuss a new relationship with Pastor Causer. Your vote is important. Come join us. An all church picnic is planned for September 11th also. The church will provide BBQ meat and paper products. Everyone is being asked to bring a covered dish to share.
Zion UCC is saddened by the passing of Rev. Howard Self in his sleep on August 16th. Funeral services were held at the church on August 27.
