Jr. Hornets Win Three Straight

After all of their games were rained out during the week of August 15, the Jr. Hornets continued their strong start to the seasaon, as they defeated Pinckneyville, Chester and Centralia.

On August 22, the Jr. Hornets defeated Pinckneyville on the road 7-1. Nashville's offense was led by Cole Malawy, who finished with three hits and two runs scored in the win. Gavin Baldwin also was productive offensively for the Jr. Hornets as he finished with two hits and three RBIs in the win. On the mound, Jaxon Goforth pitched 4 2/3 innings for the win. Goforth allowed one run on two hits, and struck out seven. Zach Kempfer pitched 2 1/3 innings of shut-out ball in relief, and struck out four batters.

The Jr. Hornets next game was at home against Centralia on August 23. Nashville dominated the matchup winning 16-6 in just five inning of play. Malawy finished with three hits, a walk, two RBIs and four runs scored in the win. Goforth finished with two hits, three runs, and two RBIs, while Michael Combs finished with 2 RBIs. Nolan Heggemeier finished with two hits in the win. The star offensively was Baldin, who had a huge day at the plate. Baldwin finished with four hits, including a grand slam and a three-run home run. Baldwin finished the day with three runs scored and nine RBIs. Camden Ritzel was the winning pitcher in relieve, as he allowed one run on four hits in 3 2/3 innings.

In the Jr. Hornets final game of the week, they easily defeated Chester 16-1 in four innings on August 25. Baldwin led the team as he finished 2-2 with two runs scored, and two RBIs. Combs and Kempfer each added two RBIs, while Preston Dagner pitched two innings of one run ball for the win. Heggemeier came in. in relief of Dagner and pitched two shut-out innings.
