St. Ann/TSJ Softball Begins Season

The TSJ/St. Ann softball team began their season with games against Hoyleton/Hofmann/ILS, Carlyle Jr. High, and Mt. Vernon St. Mary.

The TSJ/St. Ann softball team, began their season with a 15-4 win over Hoyleton/Hoffman/ILS on August 19. The TSJ/St. Ann pitchers finished the game with 12 strikeouts, to go along with a good day offensively for the team. The TSJ/St. Ann team scored two in the first, five in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth, and four in the fifth, to easily win the game.

TSJ/St. Ann was led by Reese Varel who finished the game 2-3 with three runs scored and a walk. Abbie Maschhoff finished with two walks and two runs, while Cayla Krueger finished with one hit, two runs, and two walks in the win. Lauren Rapp had the lone other hit for TSJ/St. Ann. Katie May, Kris May, Ruby Konkel, and Kyley Kwiatkowski also scored runs in the game for TSJ/St. Ann.

TSJ/St. Ann could not get the offense working in their next game as they fell 15-1 to Carlyle Jr. High on August 22. Carlyle scored two in the first, but blew the game open with six runs in the second inning. TSJ/St. Ann got their lone run in the first inning of the game. Krueger scored the lone run in the first, after doubling in her first at bat of the game. Krueger was driven in by Katie May with a RBI single. Maschhoff had the lone other hit for TSJ/St. Ann.

TSJ/St. Anns third game was a slug fest against Mt. Vernon St. Mary. TSJ/St. Ann scored five in the third, three in the fourth, and four in the sixth to get the win 12-11. Mt. Vernon St. Mary scored early as they were ahead 6-0 after the second inning of play. Mt. Vernon St. Mary added three in the fifth, and one in the sixth and seventh but could not come all the way back. Krueger and Colleen Jahnke each had two hits and two runs in the game for TSJ/St. Ann. Varel and Katie May each added a hit. Varel finished with two runs scored and May finished with three runs scored. Konkel also added a run scored after she was hit by a pitch in the third inning.
