On our travels to Pennsylvania last week, I didn’t see weeds along the roads as in Illinois
What an exciting week, as last Monday, Aug 22, Stanley and Ora Mae Droege and Cindy McHenry, our chauffeur, left for Loretto, Kentucky to The Maker’s Mark Distillery to purchase some whiskey out of Stanley’s barrel that had marked and aged for him when he joined The Makers Mark Club.
Then on to Williamsport, Pa., to attend the Little League World Series Baseball games at Howard J Lamade Stadium and the Volunteer Stadium. For 10 days each August, people from around the world take a look at what’s happening on two baseball diamonds in South Williamsport. Sixteen teams of young baseball players – eight from the United States and eight from other countries, gather in the Central Susquehanna Valley with hopes of becoming the best Little League team in the world. Fans fill the stands and grass covered hillsides overlooking Volunteer and Lamade Stadiums to cheer on the 11 and 12 year old players. Stanley and Ora Mae were among those attending the games, Cindy was a Staff Official and had various areas of the complex to work.
Ora Mae was pleasantly surprised on Saturday when someone called her name, it was a guy who had sat with them 5 or 6 years ago and had gotten him tickets at that time. He commented “can you believe out of 23,000 people here, that we would meet again?” It was shocking to meet again. He came to where our seats were and also met with Stanley.
On Sunday, the Championship was brought back to the United States by a New York team’s 2 -1 win over Korea. There were, really, many good games. Anyone looking for a place to go, if you like baseball, is to the Little League World Series games. It is an experience in many ways.
