Okawville Wheat Festival To Be Held Friday, Saturday And Sunday

Okawville will be hosting their 68th annual fair and Wheat Festival this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 16, 17 and 18.

Concessions and rides start things off on Friday at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively. Then at 7 p.m., things get going in earnest with the Queen and Junior Miss Judging and Crowning, in the Junior/Senior High School.

There will also be live music to keep people entertained. On Friday, J. Christopher, Most Dangerous One Man Band will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. On Saturday the Venedy Band will play from 4 to 6 p.m., and from 8 p.m. to midnight, Hillbilly Authority will be providing the tunes. On Sunday, at 4 p.m. the Okawville High School Band will be playing a concert, while from 6 to 9 p.m., Backroads will be playing.

Both Saturday and Sunday, the concession stands open at 11 a.m. The food will include fish, fried chicken, grilled pork steaks, chicken strips, brats, burgers, fries and slaw. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, there will be funnel cakes, kettle corn, ice cream, pie and cake. For beverages, there will be soda, water, coffee, beer and more.

For the youngsters with strong legs, at 1 p.m., the young farmers activity will be the kiddie tractor pull, while the antique tractor pull will be at 2 p.m.

Ardy the Clown will be on the park grounds to entertain from 1 to 5 p.m.

At 2 p.m., the Local Talent Show will be on the outdoor stage free, and the exhibit hall will open.

If you’re feeling lucky, the Okawville American Legion Post 233 will be hosting bingo (BL-3002) from 5 to 10 p.m. on Saturday and from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday.

On Sunday, you can say “see you in the funny pages,” Classic Comic Strips is the theme of the large float parade, which begins at 2 p.m.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, there will be rides, either with a single ticket purchase or after 4 p.m. (6 p.m. on Friday), with the purchase of an armband.

All weekend, small children can play in the free corn box, sponsored by the OHS FFA Chapter, and admission, parking and outdoor entertainment are free all weekend.
