This week from the Washington County Historical Society is this photo hanging on the wall in the kitchen, showing the Geo. Ahlf General Store (Dry Goods and Groceries), circa 1910.
Now, if only some reader could tell The Nashville News what happened to that stately old building… Fortunately, there’s no need to call in. The label on the top right says “Now Nashville News Bldg.” Wow!
We had been told before that our office was a grocery/general store at one time, but this is the first photo we’ve seen of the place that’s over 100 years old.
To see this and many other items, from many other time periods, visit the Washington County Historical Society Museum, located at 326 S. Kaskaskia, and Nashville’s L&N Depot, located at 101 E. Railroad., open from 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday.
