The Kaskaskia College Child Care Center recently had a visit from staff from the Illinois Corrections Industries Department which has a little over 1.5 acres of garden where various vegetables are grown. This year, they were able to donate 2000 pounds of produce to 2 local food pantries and today donated 35 pumpkins to the KC Child Care Center.

According to Gregory Smith, “The department receives cardboard, paper and tin cans from the college for their recycling program, so we thought it would be a nice gesture to give the kids at the college daycare a few pumpkins to play with”.

The department produces various products used in the correctional system. At the Centralia Correctional Center, they produce male boxers, male pants, male shirts, shower curtains, laundry bags and many other garment products.
