The Nashvile Middle School Jr. Hornets seventh grade basketball team began the season with a second place finish in the seventh grade Whiteside Tournament. The Jr. Hornets defeated Emge and Pontiac, before falling to Whiteside in the championship game.
The Jr. Hornets got the tournament off to a good start with a 34-29 win over Emge. After trailing 12-7 at the end of the first quarter, Nashville outscored Emge 10-4 in the second to take a one point lead at half. The Jr. Hornets extended their lead to three points after the third and ended up winning by five points.
Nashville was led in the game by Aaron Brink with 10 points. Nolan Heggemeier scored nine points in the win, followed by Michael Combs with five points. Ian Blazier scored four points, while Saxton Hoepker, Lucas Knepp, and Radyn Schwartzkopf each had two points.
The Jr. Hornets next game was up against Pontiac. Nashville dominated the matchup taking a 10 point lead after the first quarter, and won the game 40-7. The Jr. Hornets shut out Pontiac in both the second and fourth quarters of the game. Leading the way for Nashville was Combs and Kolten Gajewski, who each finished with 10 points. Blazier finished with six points, while Ben Reid, and Schwartzkopf finished with three points apiece. Brink, Knepp, and Trey Reinburg each scored two points, and Heggemeier and Aiden Heiman each had one point to round out the scoring.
The Jr. Hornets moved onto the championship game against Whiteside. Whiteside took the lead in the first quarter, outscoring Nashville 10-5, and held on the rest of the game for a 33-25 victory. Nashville kept the game close, but could not make a comeback.
The Jr. Hornets were led by Heggemeier with nine points in the loss. Combs added seven points, while Gajewski scored four points. Brink scored three poitns and Schwartzkopf finished with two points in the loss.
