Walter Barkau, Jr.

Walter F. “Butch” Barkau, Jr., 64, of Nashville, passed away at 10:02 p.m. on Friday, November 25, 2016 in the emergency room at Washington County Hospital in Nashville.

He was born on August 10, 1952 in Nashville, the son of Walter and Marjorie Lorraine McClain Barkau, Sr. He first married Pam Jenkins June 23, 1972 and they later divorced. He then married Florence M. Klasing on February 11, 2009 and she survives in Nashville.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike Barkau of Nashville and Chris Barkau of Carbondale; a daughter, Michelle Rybacki of Nashville; six grandchildren, Ryan, Cole and Tony Rybacki, Stephanie and Bryan Barkau, and Kristina Doty; three great grandchildren; and two sisters, Flora Barkau of Nashville, and Karen (Ronald) Perkey of Spring Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Herschel and Marvin Barkau; a sister, Hazel Mathews; and a niece, Angela Barkau.

Mr. Barkau formerly worked at Hassel’s saw mill in Huegley and later construction. He loved to fish and spend time outdoors.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at St. Paul UCC (White Church) Cemetery, near Okawville, with Wesley Hampton officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
