Robert J. “Bob” Oexeman

Bob was born on December 22, 1941, the first-born child of Albert Oexeman and Florence Oexeman, nee Maschhoff. He grew up in Nashville, Illinois, where he attended Trinity Lutheran School and Nashville Community High School.

In 1963, Bob met JoAnn Elizabeth Schumacher, of Hinsdale and they were married in 1965. Bob and JoAnn had two children, Daniel [1970-2001], and Bradley.

Bob was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale [B.A. 1963; M.A. 1965 (Dean’s List, Pi Sigma Alpha)], and of the University of Michigan Law School [J.D. cum laude 1968]. Bob was an attorney for over 43 years. He was associated with a major law firm in Chicago as both associate and partner. Later in life, Bob was in the private practice of law and also served as the Synod Attorney for the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America from 1991 to 2011. In 2011, he was honored by the Synod with its Sunergos Award.

Bob was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hinsdale where he served as President of the congregation, Elder, Congregation Council, usher and on numerous committees over the years.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, his son Dan, and his parents. He is survived by his son Bradley, siblings Carol [Rudy] Benz of St. Louis, Nancy [Fred] Smith of Windsor, Illinois, Joyce [Kelly] Sheridan of Nashville, Illinois, John [Janice] Oexeman of St. Louis, and many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bob passed away peacefully at his home on December 11.

A Memorial service was held at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Hinsdale, 139 E. First Street, Hinsdale, Illinois, on December 18, 2016. Interment will be private.
