Mania over the Nashville American Legion’s progressive jackpot raffle, The Queen of Hearts, as the pot grew larger and larger as the weeks past and the word went out further and further. Week 49, with its drawing held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, saw the total available to a winner who found the queen of hearts reach $377,469. TOP, hopeful entrants in the Queen of Hearts put their tickets into the drum for a chance to win. LEFT, the winning ticket, number 3075, belonged to Ron Beckmann, of Bartelso, with his wife Ellen, who chose card 34, which did indeed conceal the Queen of Hearts. Beckmann said that he and his wife will be splitting the total with seven other couples who purchased the tickets with them, putting $140 worth of tickets into the latest week’s pot. Before the drawing, members of the Nashville American Legion announced that regardless of that night’s results, they would be taking at least two weeks off from the drawings in order to give the volunteers who put the contests on some time off for the holidays.
