Clarence E. Smelter, 75, of Tamaroa, passed away at 11:30 P.M., Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Clarence had been a factory worker at Decca Records for thirty-four years. He had also been a farmer. Clarence had graduated from Tamaroa High School in 1958. He then graduated from Chicago Technical College. He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church in Du Bois.
He was born July 14, 1941 at Centralia, the son of Joe T. and Gertrude Ann (Miller) Smelter.
He is survived by one brother – Larry Smelter and wife Shirley of Tamaroa, two nephews – Corey Smelter of Centralia and Craig Smelter and wife Nichole of Murphysboro, and two great nieces – Grace Barlage and Sophie Smelter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the St. Charles Catholic Church at Du Bois with Fr. Bernard C. Goedde, Jr. officiating.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Burial will be in the St. Charles Cemetery at Du Bois.
