After entering the Highland Tournament just six three pointers shy of breaking the Nashville High School school record for three pointers made in a season, Paige Kasten was able to break the record in her third game of the tournament against Triad.

The record was previously held by Jordi Harre, who made 71 three pointers in the 2011-12 season. Harre also holds the record for career three pointers made for the Hornettes.

Having already passed Shanna Richard for second most three pointers made in a season, Kasten was within reach for breaking the school record. In the Hornettes first game of the Highland tournament, Kasten made two three pointers, to cut the magic number down to four three pointers to tie and five to break the record.

In the Hornettes second game of the Highland Tournament against Nokomis, Kasten converted on four three point shots in the first half, and looked poised to break the record, but Kasten would not make a three in the second half of the game, and ended the game tied at 71 made threes with Harre.

In the third game of the Highland Tournament, Kasten would miss her first three point attempt, but she was able to convert on her next attempt to break the record in the first quarter. Coach Doug Althoff said of Kasten after the game, “She knew she had tied it, so I’m sure she figured out she broke it. Now she’s two above it.”

After the game, Kasten she wasn’t thinking about the record during the game. “I was more concerned about winning than getting the record.”

Kasten went on to talk about the record. “I was kind of taught to shoot three’s from my freshman year, that was kind of my role, so I’ve been working on it a lot, trying to get better from a wider range, so it’s really nice to have the record.”

Kasten also talked about her relationship with Harre, “Jordi and I are really close. She is someone I’ve looked up to since I was really little playing basketball, so it's really cool to go out there and know I’m on the same caliber as here in basketball. We’ve talked about it a little bit. She texted me before the game and told me to keep shooting and have my confidence level up.”

At the conclusion of the tournament, Kasten had made 77 three pointers this season, with five games remaining before the Hornettes begin Regionals. The best performance of the season for Kasten was six three pointers in a win over Centralia during the Mascoutah Tournament. Kasten made five three pointers in a game four times this season.
