TSJ/ILS Titans Win Steeleville Lutheran Tournament

The TSJ-ILS Titans participated in the Steeleville Lutheran School Tournament last week. In the first game of the tournament on Thursday, January 19th, the Titans defeated the host school St. Mark's 49-25. Their continued offensive efficiency was the key to the win with 12 assists compared to only four turnovers. Scoring for the Titans were Mason Meyer 17, Boomer Harris 16, Caleb Unverfehrt 11, Tyler Schill and Ashton McGranahan each with 2, Levi Traub with 1. Meyer and Harris led the rebounding with 17 and 16 respectively and Caleb Unverfehrt contributed 6 assists and was 8 for 9 shooting from the field.

On Saturday the 21, the Titans faced Belleville Zion in the first game of the night. The Titans were victorious again 47-30 and moved onto the Championship game on Sunday, at Steeleville High School gym. The players have developed a good team chemistry. With a sizable lead going into the 4th quarter, the Titans ran their spread offense and continued to score effectively. Caleb Unverfehrt lead the scoring with 19 points, Boomer Harris 14, Mason Meyer and Tyler Schill each with 5, Ashton McGranahan 3 and Dominic Perry 1. The team continued their overall game efficiency with 13 assists and only 5 turnovers.

On Sunday afternoon, the Titans played a hard fought game against St. John's Red Bud. The final score of 29-20 was not indicative of the closeness of the game. This was only the 3rd time the team has trailed at halftime 12-11. With some coaching adjustments at halftime the Titans regained the lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. During the quarter Ashton McGranahan hit 2, 15 foot jump shots as did Caleb Unverfehrt leading the way to a 23-20 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter, a lead they would stretch to 9 points and the final score of 29-20. The victory ended a 9 year drought since their last championship at the Steeleville Tournament. Tyler Schill played an aggressive game at both ends of the floor in helping the Titans to the victory. Caleb Unverfehrt had 11 points, Ashton McGranahan 6, Tyler Schill 5, Boomer Harris 4, Mason Meyer 3.

TSJ-ILS Titans Win Steelevill Lutheran Tournament This week the Titans host a class "S" Regional with all games being played at TSJ's gym. Come on out and root the Titans on for the quest to a trip to Rend Lake College for the State Tournament.
