Washington County Hospital Announces New Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Washington County Hospital Announces New Pulmonary

Rehabilitation Program

Washington County Hospital (WCH) is excited to announce their new Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

This new program is designed to help people with pulmonary problems (e.g., emphysema, lung cancer & lung cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [COPD], respiratory symptoms, and pulmonary fibrosis) recover faster and improve their quality of life.

This program will include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at WCH is a physician referred program that requires an order and diagnosis meeting medical necessity.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is covered by Medicare and most commercial insurances.

A Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) will be completed prior to beginning the pulmonary rehab program.

When patients have their initial appointment, they will work with the cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation staff to establish individualized goals and exercise programs based on their PFT and physical fitness evaluation.

During the patient’s scheduled visits, all exercises will be completed in a controlled environment.

Staff members will communicate all progress to the ordering physician on regular intervals.

Patients will also have education and counseling that covers the understanding and use of oxygen therapy, breathing retraining, nutritional and weight management, and symptom assessment and knowledge when to seek out medical treatment.

If you have any questions about Pulmonary Rehabilitation, please contact the Cardio-Pulmonary Staff at 618-327-2228.
