After defeating Coulterville and TSJ/ILS in the first two rounds of the SIJHSAA Class S Regional, the St. Ann Saints, saw their season come to an end with a 41-35 loss to Oakdale on Saturday January 28. The Saints ended the season with a 14-13 record.
The Saints got the SIJHSAA Class S Regional off to a good start with a 39-12 win over Coulterville on January 24. After outscoring Coulterville 5-1 in the first quarter, St. Ann was able put the game out of reach in the second quarter. The Saints were able to outscore Coulterville 18-3 in the second, and took a commanding 23-4 lead into halftime. After the break, the Saints were able to cruise to a 39-12 victory.
The Saints were led in the game by Logan Eversgerd with 10 points. Aaron Stanowski added six points followed by Nick Miller with five points. The trio of Evan Kujawa, Thomas Wojtowicz, and Brayden Bauza each scored four points in the game, while the duo of Kaden Kinkey and Luke Pedtke scored three points apiece in the win.
In the semi-finals of the Regional, the Saints withstood a huge fourth quarter from the TSJ/ILS Titans to hold on for a 47-46 victory and advance to the Regional Championship. The Saints again got off to a good start, as St. Ann outscored the Titans 13-7 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, both teams traded points, but St. Ann was able to extend their lead to 23-16 as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.
After the break, the Saints again were able to extend their lead, as they outscored the Titans 15-9 in the third quarter, and took a 38-25 lead with one quarter of play remaining. In the fourth, the Titans came alive, as they outscored St. Ann 21-9 in the frame. The Titans would get close but could not complete the comeback as the Saints held on for a one point victory.
Miller led the Saints with 17 points, and was joined in double figures by Stanowski, who finished with 10 points in the win. Eversgerd scored eight points, while Pedtke and Bauza rounded out the scoring with six points apiece.
The win over the Titans set up a match between Oakdale and St. Ann for the SIJHSAA Class S Regional Championship. This time it was Oakdale that got off to a fast start and went on for a 41-35 victory. The Vikings outscored St. Ann 9-1 in the first quarter, and held a 20-10 lead at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, Oakdale outscored St. Ann 11-6 and held a commanding 31-16 lead going into the final stanza. In the fourth, the Saints came alive. The Saints got three three pointers from Miller as they outscored Oakdale 19-10 in the quarter. In the end, the Saints fell short, as Oakdale took the game, and advanced to state.
Miller led St. Ann with 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half. Eversgerd and Bauza each scored seven points in the loss. Pedtke, Stanowski, and Kujawa rounded out the scoring with three points apiece.
