Meeting Notice: Extension

Advisory Council

The next regular meeting of Bond, Clinton, Jefferson, Marion and Washington Counties Extension Advisory Council will be February 13 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Clinton County, which is located at 1163 North 4th Street in Breese.

Agenda items will include a financial update, staffing update, Master Gardener and Master Naturalist program updates, and Council member recruitment.  For more information about the Extension Advisory Council, call your local Extension Office at 618-327-8881.

Special Horticulture Classes Starting Soon through U of I Extension

University of Illinois Extension has opened up the Illinois Master Gardening Classes for those who want to advance their knowledge and understanding of plants and Ornamental Horticulture.  If you would like to become a Master Gardener and currently do not have the time to devote to the full program or would like to try out a few classes to see if the program meets your needs then this is your opportunity. Classes are at the Mt. Vernon or Breese Illinois U of I Extension on the following Tuesdays:

February 7: Trees, shrubs and Vines

February 14: SoilsFebruary 21: Annuals/Perennials

February 28: Lawns

March 7: Diseases and Diagnosis

March 14: Wildlife, Organic Gardening and Composting

March 21: Vegetables

March 28: Fruits

April 4: Integrated Pest Management(IPM)

Classes are individually priced, and you can earn a $25.00 certificate to be used towards next year’s training if you choose to attend. Classes run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with a full lunch break.  Each class is taught by a University of Illinois specialist, and will provide an in-depth look into each subject.
