Orval L. Freeman
Orval L. Freeman, 93, of Scheller, passed away at 7:59 A.M. February 15, 2017 at Nature Trail Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.
He was born January 2, 1924 in Waltonville to parents, Roy and Myrtle (Newell) Freeman. He was married to Marie Virginia Freeman for 71 years and she survives.
Funeral service were held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, and were officiated by Pastor Jason Newell. Interment was at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville. Members of the Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct Full Military Honors at the cemetery.
Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Marie Freeman of Scheller; son, David Freeman of Scheller; daughter, Jane Owens and husband, John of Scheller; four grandchildren, Leslie Knox and husband, Matt of Woodlawn, Bradley Freeman of White, Georgia, Erik Owens and wife, Tiffany of Scheller, and Alex Owens and wife, Paige of Scheller; and six great grandchildren, Lexy Knox, Katy Knox, Jacy Knox, Sophie Owens, Alyssa Freeman, and Emersyn Owens.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of Ashley Sportsman Club, Waltonville AmVets, and Sesser American Legion. Orval loved to garden and fish. He enjoyed spending time on the farm and being involved with his grandkids sporting events. His grandchildren called him “Gramps” and his great grandchildren called him “Pa”. Orval “Kept the roads hot”. His family says “he could drive 100,000 miles a year and never went anywhere”.
For those who wish, memorials may be given to Knob Prairie Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Newell Funeral Home, 407 E. Main Street, Waltonville, Illinois 62894.
