The Classic Photo featured in the February 15, 2017 edition of The Nashville News featured three men standing in front of a propeller-driven airplane, one of the men holding a one-wheeled measuring device of some sort.
We’ve heard back from two readers, Dennis Hoelscher and Clarence Bauza, both of whom identified the man in the center of the photo as Bob Beckmeyer, deceased. Both Hoelscher and Bauza stated that Beckmeyer was likely at an airstrip that he built which was located just outside of Nashville.
Hoelscher stated that the photo would have probably been taken right around when the airstrip was completed, probably the early 1960s.
Bauza further stated that Beckmeyer’s airstrip was located to the north of town near where CARS or Baldwin House Insurance are now, and that Beckmeyer also had a restaurant that he opened named “Rokiki’s” which was located in a barn near the airstrip.
