SAT/ACT Prep Classes:

NCHS teachers are hosting SAT prep workshops at the high school.  The math, reading, and English sessions will focus on SAT preparation.  The science sessions will focus on ACT preparation.  Subject, dates, and times are listed below.  Students are to sign up outside the main office if interested in attending.

Engineering Camps:

The Society of American Military Engineers offers a unique series of engineering camps designed for high school students. It is geared to those who excel in math, science, technical courses; or who plan to study engineering in college. These one-week camps are high energy, ‘hands-on’ events for students from across the county.

Three camps are offered this summer: Army – Vicksburg, MS; Marine – Jacksonville, NC; and Air Force – Colorado Springs, CO. Scott Field Post will sponsor one student per camp. Please visit the http://samecamps.org for details. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 17, 2017.

Scholarships:

Here is a list partial list of upcoming scholarships:

ENERGY BOOST UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP – Available to high school seniors accepted into SIUC’s department of mechanical engineering and energy.  For application info, visit: http://acerc.siu.edu/energyboost/scholarships/ undergraduate.php.  Applications are due March 10, 2017.

ILLINOIS LUMBER & MATERIAL DEALERS SCHOLARSHIP – Available to high school seniors who are enrolling in an industrial-related program. The application copies are available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2017.

AFA LEADER AND ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS – Available to high school seniors enrolling in agriculture at an accredited college. The application must be completed online at the Agriculture Future of America website. Deadline to apply is March 17, 2017.

WASHINGTON COUNTY FARM BUREAU FOUNDATION GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP – To be eligible applicants must: be a Washington County Farm Bureau member or the dependent of a member, be a high school senior or college student enrolling in agricultural-related program, maintain at least a 2.0 GPA, and a resident of Washington County. The application is available in the counseling office. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2017.

HENEGHAN & ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP – High school seniors planning to enroll in engineering, surveying, or mathematics are eligible to apply. The application is available in the counseling office. Applications are due March 31, 2017.

JORDAN EMRICK SCHOLARSHIP – The Kaskaskia Valley A.B.A.T.E Of Illinois is sponsoring a $500 scholarship. NCHS seniors may submit an essay on Patriotism. All papers must be MLA style and a minimum of 500 words. (Titles and student names not included.) Please do not include your name, personal information, college major, or college of choice in the paper. Papers must be submitted to the NCHS counseling office by March 31, 2017.

SIU CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP – To be eligible applicants must: be a member or the dependent of a member of the SIU Credit Union and be a high school senior or college student. The application and more information can be found at SIU Credit Union (https://www.siucu.org/scholarship). Applications are due March 31, 2017.

KASKASKIA COLLEGE SIR’s SCHOLARSHIPThe SIR’s scholarship application to Kaskaskia College is now open. The application can be downloaded at http://www.kaskaskia.edu/Scholarships/PDF/SIRs_Application_2016.pdf or copies are available in the counseling office. Applications are due April 1, 2017.

FREDERICK “HARRL” BEATTY MEMORIAL ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP – One $750 female and one $750 male scholarship will be awarded this year. NCHS seniors are encouraged to apply. The application is available in the counseling office and need to be returned by April 1, 2017.

WASHINGTON LODGE #55 SCHOLARSHIP – One $500 scholarship will be awarded this year. NCHS seniors ranked in the top 25% of the class are encouraged to apply. The application is available in the counseling office and need to be returned by April 1, 2017.

MATHIS, MARIFIAN & RICHTER, LTD LAW CAREER SCHOLARSHIP – The law firm of Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd is offering three $1,000 scholarships to seniors from St. Clair, Madison and Washington counties. NCHS seniors ranked in the top 25% of the class and planning a career in law are encouraged to apply. The application is available in the counseling office and need to be returned by April 1, 2017.

ACT Testing Dates:

The next ACT is April 8.  Registration is due by March 3.  Additional testing date this year is June 10.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.

SAT Testing Dates:

The next SAT is March 11.  Late registration is due February 28.  Additional SAT testing dates for the year are May 6 and June 3.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Student may register at www.collegeboard.org.  Our high school code is 143-110.
