District 49 Call Home – Friday, March 3, 2017
With cold and flu season upon us here is a reminder of our attendance policies from our handbook. Thanks for your cooperation in getting notes from the Doctor’s office anytime your child is seen by a physician. Also attached is a flyer concerning The Flu and You!
Any student that misses three or more consecutive days of school, excluding absences that have been previously approved by administration, will be required to present a note from the doctor’s office indicating they have received treatment during the absence. Failure to do so will result in the absences being unexcused.
Students shall be permitted NO MORE THAN FIVE EXCUSED ABSENCES PER SEMESTER BASED UPON PARENTAL CONFIRMATION FOR THE REASONS OF THE ABSENCE. After the student has been excused five times during a semester, additional absences will only be excused through verification from a written medical statement by a physician. After the five excused absences, the school will notify the parent/guardian. If a student absence is verified by a doctor’s excuse before the student has reached the limit of five days (or classes) of excused absences, the absence will not count toward the five days permitted by this section. All doctor’s excuses must be submitted to the main office within 48 hours of the student absence.
Students with two or fewer detentions in February will enjoy our non-detention activity of a movie and popcorn with their class. Each class will pick the time for their activity, so we will be celebrating February Sweetness all week!
Friday, March 10 is Rachel’s Challenge Day! Please wear your blue Rachel’s Challenge shirt to again create our sea of blue! Friday is also the last day of the third quarter, grade cards will be coming home on March 17.
This year we are doing a brand new fundraiser. This will replace the candy sale that we have done in the past. We will do a walk-a-thon on Wednesday, April 12. This fundraiser is in cooperation with 99Pledges. This is an on-line pledge. You will be receiving an email next week with information about the fundraiser. We get to keep over 90% of the money we raise. There is no selling involved. It is a flat donation. We use the money we raise to pay for field trips, assemblies, and non-detention activities. Prizes for this fundraiser will be similar to the prizes for the candle sale that the PSO does. We will award the top 5 fundraisers from the middle school and primary school with a cash prize. You can also collect money and turn it in. If you collect money we get to keep 100% of that. If your child is interested in collecting money please send them to see Mr. Fairbanks for a collection envelope. If you have any questions about the fundraiser please contact Mr. Fairbanks.
There is no school on Monday, March 6th for Casimir Pulaski Day.
