Dr. Dale Meyer To Speak At Trinity Hoyleton’s 150th Anniversary

Dr. Dale A. Meyer, President of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, will speak at the Sesquicentennial celebration of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hoyleton on Sunday, March 12th at the 9:30 Worship Service.
Dr. Meyer joined the faculty at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, in 2001 and became the tenth president of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, 2005. He earned a master’s degree (1974) and a doctorate (1986) in classical languages from Washington University in St. Louis. He earned a Master of Divinity degree (1973) from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. He completed his bachelor’s degree (1969) at Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, IN. He is also the recipient of honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity (1993) from Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN.
Meyer began his pastoral career serving as pastor of St. Salvator Lutheran Church in Venedy. Meyer was a speaker on The Lutheran Hour radio program, 1989-2001. He has written numerous sermons and columns for Lutheran Hour Ministries, as well as books and articles for Concordia Publishing House and Concordia Seminary. Meyer has been speaking and preaching on the road for over 25 years and continues to do so. His areas of interest and study include: 1 Peter, the Church in a changing culture, and the Sabbath applied to life today. He resides in St. Louis with his wife Diane. They have two grown daughters: Elizabeth (Darren) Pittman and Catharine (Charles) Bailey, and five grandsons: Christian, Connor, and Nicholas Pittman and Andrew and Jacob Bailey.
During 2017, Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton will celebrate 150 years of preaching and teaching God’s Word with a yearlong celebration of special events and programs. March 12 will be the Kick off with a special worship and music service, followed by a potluck meal in the Activity Center. There will also be Exhibitions and Video of the church’s history. A Pictorial Directory and a Trinity History Book will be available for purchase. The Anniversary Committee is planning a special guest speaker, who has ties to Hoyleton, every month through October, along with other activities. Different commemorative collectibles will also be available for purchase throughout the year, such as lapel pins, window clings, folders, church banks, and Christmas ornaments. Sanctuary decorations will be displayed. At the Hofbraufest, interesting historical items will be displayed in a tent. A Cemetery Walk is also planned for September.
2017 is also the 500th Anniversary of The Reformation, when Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses written in Latin, to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany . That was the beginning of the Lutheran Church. A Reformation Dinner Theatre is planned for October.
The 150 years at Trinity has brought many changes, as seen by the memorabilia and pictures. God’s Love for His people has not changed. We are appreciative of the continued blessing He showers on us every day. He sent His Son to wash our sins away, if we believe in Him. His Love for us is eternal. As we reach another milestone in our history, we invite anyone interested to join us in celebration of these events.
