Although the Nashville Hornets boys basketball team fell short of making it to the IHSA Class 2A State Finals, Nashville fans will still have something to root for. Nashville senior Trevor Meier advanced in the IHSA Class 2A Three Point Showdown.
Meier was the seventh shooter in the competition before the Sectional Championship game between Nashville and Alton Marquette and tied for second as he made nine of fifteen, including his last four shots. Austin Francis finished first with 10 out of 15 to advance to state.
Overall five shooters made nine of fifteen. Only four shooters would advance to state, so a tiebreaker was needed to see who would advance. In the shoot-off Meier made nine of ten shots to advance. Meier only missed the second shot. Also advancing was Brock Nelson of Greenville. A second tiebreaker was needed in which Adam Walton of Carlinville was able to advance.
Meier will shoot in the Country Financial Three Point Shooting Preliminaries on March 9 at Carver Arena in Peoria at 5 p.m.. If Meier advances out of preliminaries, he will shoot in the Country Financial Three Point Shooting Contest Finals on Friday March 10 at Carver Arena between the Semi-Final games at approximately 7 p.m.
