I spoke with Len Piasecki and asked him a few questions this weekend and found out that Len has owned his home and resided in Ashley for 26 years. For 16 of those years Len was Mayor and 4 years he was city councilman.
I asked Len to share some of his accomplishments while Mayor. He said he applied for and received hundreds of thousands of dollars in Grants for the city. Some of those grants are listed here a complete upgrade of the sewage lagoon and lift stations $787,000.00 grant, received a Cop’s grant for $75,000.00, purchased a police car with a 20,000.00 grant, expanded City Hall with a $20,000.00 grant, sidewalk grant $28,500.00 and replaced the sidewalk from Jefferson St to Main St, built the Community Building with a $30, 000.00 grant. Then converted to Washington County Water with a $269,000.00 grant and painted west water tower inside and out with a $70,000.00 grant. Numerous repairs were made to the water plant saving the city thousands of dollars. More than 24 derelict buildings were demolished.
I asked Len what he plans to do if elected Mayor and he said he plans to clean Ashley up by getting rid of derelict homes and junk vehicles. He said ordinances will be enforced he said tax payers spent thousands of dollars to prepare these ordinances so they need enforced. He also plans to resolve the East Water Tower issues by either repainting and repairing with money from Grants or taking it out of service. He said he will continue to apply for Grants on behalf of the city.
Next week I will be talking with Sheri Pedtke who is also running for Mayor.
Ashley Community Committee members had a blast at the Dubois Parade on Sunday.
Have a wonderful week.
