FFA Public Speakers recently won many honors while competing at the Section 21 Public Speaking Contest at Kaskaskia College.

The contest has five categories in which speakers can compete: Varsity Prepared, JV Prepared, Varsity Extemporaneous, JV Extemporaneous, and FFA Creed Speaking.

As the name implies prepared speaking requires presenting a 6-8 minute speech from memory that was prepared before the contest.

The extemporaneous contest requires the participant to draw an agricultural topic and prepare a 3-5 minute speech in 30 minutes. In the Creed contest participants recite the FFA Creed from memory and answer questions about its meaning and purpose. In Creed Speaking, Aden Hill placed fourth and Cassie Fullerton placed tenth.

In JV Extemporaneous, Chloe Pelka placed first in JV Prepared, Callie McClay placed first. In Varsity Extemporaneous, Cole Herrmann placed second. For Varsity Prepared, Austin Schorfheide placed second.

Austin, Callie, Chloe, and Cole will now advance to the district contest on April 5.
