Washington County 4-H Awards Workshop-Two Date Options
March 22 and March 28 there will be Awards and Recognition Workshops for Washington County 4-H members at the Extension Office in Nashville. Members and parents can select the date that works best for their schedule. Both sessions will begin at 7 p.m. and give participants a look at the new award application and permanent record process.
Learning to excel at 4-H award applications can help member earn scholarships, trips to conferences, and national recognition. It can also help youth learn to build their resume, gain personal satisfaction, and awards will look good on college and employment applications. Members are encouraged to attend and learn how to get the recognition they deserve on their 4-H project work.

Back to Basics: Creating a Healthy Soil
Did you know there are millions of living organisms in your soil? What do they do and how do they benefit your garden? These, and other topics, will be discussed at the “Creating a Healthy Soil” workshop on Saturday March 18, 2017, from 1:00 until 2:30pm. This program offered at the Centralia Regional Library, in Centralia Illinois.
Laurie George, University of Illinois Extension Educator will help you determine what type of soil you have and how to create a sustainable environment, both for the microorganisms and plants. She will talk about conventional versus conservation tilling techniques, benefits of crop rotation, mulching, cover crops, as well as soil testing and benefits of adding organic matter.
