After advancing in a tie-breaker at Sectionals, Trevor Meier was one of 32 shooters in the Class 2A Three Point Showdown, which was held at Carver Arena in Peoria during the Class 1A/2A State Finals this past weekend.
The Preliminary round featured all 32 Class 2A shooters and was held on Thursday March 9, beginning at 5 p.m. The top four shooters would move on to the finals on Friday, March 10. Meier was the fifth shooter in Group 1 of the Preliminary Round. Overall there was four groups of eight shooters. Meier finished with 13 out of 15, which was good for second in Group 1. Jackson Porter of Carthage (Illini West) was the leader with 14 after Group one. In Group two, both Hunter Plummer of Shelbyville and Isaac Collins of Pleasant Plains tied Meier with 13. No shooter in Group three was able to shoot well enough to advance, but the last shooter of the Prelims, Mario Pittman of Chicago (Leo), was able to tie Meier, Collins, and Plummer with 13 to face a tiebreaker.
With Porter already advancing, Meier, Collins, Plummer, and Pittman would battle it out for three positions in the final round. In the first tie breaker, both Collins and Pittman were able to advance, but Meier and Plummer needed a second tiebreaker for one final spot. In the second tiebreaker, Meier connected on six three pointers, while Plummer made three three pointers, allowing Meier a spot in the Final Four.
In the final, which was held in between the two Class 2A Semi-Final games, Meier was the first shooter, as he connected on seven of fifteen shots. After Collins made nine out of fifteen, both Pittman and Porter each made 11 shots to force a tiebreaker to see who would move on to the King of The Hill Competition. In the tiebreaker, Pittman edged Porter to win Class 2A and move on.
Meier talked about the experience. “It was really great, even have all the other teams cheering there. Okawville was there. I met all of them at the Mariott. They all told me good luck. I really appreciate it. It was just all around a fun time.
