Section 22 FFA Public Speaking CDE Held At Marissa High School

Extemporaneous, Prepared, and Creed speaking were performed on February 15 at Marissa High School for the Section 22 Public Speaking CDE (Career Development Event).
There were 40 students and ten schools in attendance.
Extemporaneous public speaking consisted of competitors randomly drawing three topics and selecting one to prepare a speech on. Competitors had 30 minutes to prepare a speech of 5 minutes. Noah Marlar (Wesclin) won the varsity competition followed by Nikki Hall (Marissa), Wyatt Drewes (Waterloo), Mallory Unverfehrt (Okawville), Josh Sallman (Red Bud), Nathan Erwin (Freeburg), Cassidy Dickerson (New Athens), and Morgan Glaenzer (Columbia). Junior Varsity was led by Allison Bollmeier (Marissa), Lane Schilling (Okawville), Kade Portz (Marissa), Lauren Baur (Columbia), Hanna Marquardt (Freeburg), Shae Nail (Freeburg), Ashley Hartman (Waterloo), and Haley Wagner (Marissa).
In prepared public speaking competitors have to prepare a speech of a minimum of six minutes. Taylor Miller (Freeburg) won the competition follow by: Bailey Lance (New Athens), Jacob Jung (Waterloo), Tyler Hollis (Columbia), Alexei Cogdill (Marissa), and Briahna Whelan (Red Bud). In Junior Varsity Rachel Hall (Marissa) won followed by:Loren Koenigstein (Columbia), Faith Middendorf (New Athens), Sam Seering (Marissa), and Madison (Freeburg).
Creed Speaking evolves reciting the FFA Creed and answering follow up questions. This is for greenhands, freshman year members, only. Hannah Erwin (Freeburg) won this competition follow by: Alexis Mueller (Valmeyer), Maddie Bollmeier (Marissa), Logan Henerfauth (Valmeyer), Emily Carter (Marissa), Jeremy Zeidler (Waterloo), Jesse Haudrich (Freeburg), Josie Hooten (Gibault), Jaylin Horn (Columbia), Dylan Falkenhain (Red Bud), Ellie Hoffman (Columbia), Austin Kimes (New Athens).
Section 22 FFA will look forward to State and Section 22 Livestock, Horticulture, Dairy, Mechanics, and Ag Business CDE’s.
