Jr. Hornets Compete At Conference
The Nashville Middle School boys track team with their conference meet on April 21, and a four-team home meet on April 24.
The Jr. Hornets finished in sixth place at the conference meet, which was held on April 21 in DuQuoin, this season. Nashville got two third place finishes, and one fifth place finish in the meet. The 7th grade relay team of Carson Cook, Seldon Kozuszek, Drake Sturgill, and Ben Reid finished with a time of 1:59 to take home third place. Rylan Hammer grabbed another third place finish in the 1600m run with a time of 5:39. Reid finished fifth in the 7th grade 100m dash.
The Jr. Hornets bounced back with a second place in their next meet on April 24. The Hornets went up against Breese, TSJ, and Albers.
Nashville finished first in four different events at the meet. David Arnold finished first in the discus with a throw of 89’9”. Cook took home first place in the hurdles with a time of 18l97. The team of Cook, Seldon Kozuszek, Sturgill, and Reid crossed the line in 1:59 to take home first place in the 7th grade relay. Reid also finished first in the 7th grade 100m dash with a time of 13.45.
The Jr. Hornets finished second in six different events at the meet. Austin Kozuszek finished second in the high jump as he cleared 4’10”. Radyn Schwartzkopf took home second place in the 400 with a time of 1:10. In the 7th grade 100m dash Sturgill made it a sweep of the top two positions for the Jr. Hornets with a time of 13.96. Theron Hausner crossed the line in 27.98 to take home second in the 200m dash. The 1600m relay team of Cook, Hammer, Andrew Windler, and Seldon Kozuszek finished second with a time of 4:53. Hammer also finished second in the 1600m run with a time of 5:46.
Finishing third at the meet for Nashville was Hausner in the long jump with a jump of 15’ and Gabe Kreid in the shot put with a throw of 26’6”.
