Jr. Hornettes Win Home Finale

The Jr. Hornettes finished up their home schedule with a win on April 24 after finishing tied for third in the conference at the JSWEC meet on April 21.

At the JSWEC meet on April 21, the Jr. Hornettes finished in a tie for third with 80 points. DuQuoin took the conference championship with 131 points, followed by Sparta with 82 points. Nashville tied with Murphysboro for third. Pinckneyville finished fourth, and Chester finished fifth.

The Hornettes got four first place finishes at the meet. Kylie Heidel won the 400m dash, while Daci Finke took home first place in the 1600m run. Hailey Baugh crossed the line first in the 800m run, and the final first place finish for Nashville came from the 4X400 team of Jordan Donato, Baugh, Korbi Rhine, and Heidel.

The Jr. Hornettes got third place finishes from Sami Edwards in the discus, and Baugh in the high jump. Finishing fourth for Nashville was Edwards in the discus, the 4X100 team of Ashlyn Frazier, Finke, Ella Reed, and Rhine, Donato in the long jump, and the 4X200 team of Hope Liszewski, Frazier, Reed and Courtney Hallock.

The Jr. Hornettes then finished out their home schedule with a four team meet on April 24. Nashville finished with 97 points in the meet, well ahead of second place Breese. TSJ finished third, and St. Ann finished fourth.

The Jr. Hornettes took home a plethora of first place finishes in the meet. Donato won the long jump, while Baugh won the high jump. Edwards took home first place in both the shot put and discus events.

In the running events, Heidel was first in the both the 400 and the 8th grade 100. Baugh took home first place in the 800. Finke finished first in the 1600 and the final first place finish came from the 1600m relay team of Donato, Baugh, Rhine and Heidel.

The Jr. Hornettes took home second place in three different events. Donato made it a sweep of the top two positions for Nashville in the 400, while Heidel took home second in the hurdles, and Reed finished second in the seventh grade 100m dash.

Daphne Kollbaum finished third in the discus, while Hallock finished third in the hurdles. Donato took home third in the seventh grade 100, Allison Maschhoff finished third in the 800 and Frazier was third in the 200.
