Baseball And Softball Regionals Announced

By Brent Huelsmann

As the seasons for the Hornets and Hornettes quickly come to a close, eyes are pointed towards the postseason to see if either team will make a run. This past week the IHSA announced the baseball and softball postseason brackets for Class 2A.

On the baseball side, the Hornets will begin play in the Red Bud Regional, as part of the Benton Sectional. The Hornets are the top overall seed in their sub-sectional, as well as the top seed in their regional. The Hornets will begin postseason play on Wednesday May 17 at 4:30 p.m., against the winner of the Chester and Sparta matchup, which will be held on May 15. The Regional Championship game would be on May 20 at 11 a.m.

On the softball side, the Nashville Hornettes received the number two seed in their sub-sectional behind Waltonville (Coop). The Hornettes are the top seed in their regional and will travel to West Frankfort to begin postseason play on May 16, as they will face off against the winner of West Frankfort and Eldorado. The Regional Championship game will be played on May 20 at 11 a.m. in West Frankfort.

The Hornets have five games before they begin postseason play, while the Hornettes have just three more games in the Regular season. The full postseason schedule for all Class 1A and Class 2A teams can be found on ihsa.org.
