Four Jr. Hornettes Advance To State

Both the Jr. Hornets and Hornettes competed at Regionals this past week. The Jr. Hornettes qualified four runners for the State Track Meet which will be held on Saturday May 13 at Tri-C Elementary in Carterville. The Jr. Hornets did not have any state qualifiers.

On the girls side, Kylie Heidel took home the only first place finish for Nashville and broke a school record in the process. Heidel ran the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.37. Hailey Baugh finished second in the 800m run with a time of 2:36.56 to qualify for state. Both Baugh and Heidel, along with Jordan Donato and Korbi Rhine were a part of the 4X400m relay team that crossed the line third with a time of 4:34.47.

Heidel also took home sixth place in the 8th grade 100m dash, Daci Finke crossed the line fifth in the 1600m run. The 4X200 relay team of Courtney Hallock, Baugh, Rhine, and Heidel also brought home a sixth place finish. In the field events, Baugh finished fourth in the high jump, while Sami Edwards took home fifth in the discus and sixth in the shot put.

On the boys side, the Jr. Hornets earned ribbons in three different events. Rylan Hammer finished fourth place in the 1600m run with a time of 5:32. The team of Ben Reid, Drake Sturgill, Carson Cook and Seldon Kozuszek took home fourth place in the 7th grade relay with a time of 1:54. Trey Reinburg, Hammer, Kozuszek, and Cook finished sixth in the 1600m relay with a time of 4:40.
