Hornettes Power Past Waterloo Gibault

Jordan Stiegman makes hard contact during the Hornettes 10-0 victory over Waterloo-Gibault on May 2

The Nashville Hornettes softball team is on a roll. Even though the team had just one game this past week, the Hornettes made it count. Nashville scored at least ten runs for their third consecutive game as they defeated Waterloo Gibault 10-0 on May 2. The Hornettes record stands at 19-10 with just a few games remaining until they open up postseason play.

Everything was working for the Hornettes in their only game of the week as they took the lead early and never looked back against Waterloo Gibault. Jenna Harris did not need much run support in the circle as she pitched all six innings for the Hornettes in the win, and gave up just one hit. Harris struck out nine batters in the game.

The Hornettes got off to a quick start as they scored two runs in the first. Nashville would double their lead in the second with two more runs in the second to take a 4-0 lead. Nashville would put the game away for good in the fourth, as five runs crossed the plate to give the Hornettes a commanding 9-0 lead. The Hornettes would add one more in the sixth, and Gibault would not score in the bottom half to end the game 10-0 after six innings of play.

Offensively the Hornettes were led by Mackenzie McFeron at the top of the lineup. McFeron finished with three hits, two runs scored a RBI and five stolen bases. Jordan Stiegman added two hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored for Nashville. Brooke Burcham and Sophie Heck each had a hit and a RBI in the win. Paige Kasten and Alli Liske each finished with a RBI. Libby Ahlers and Joey Lane each had one hit for Nashville.

The Hornettes have two of their last three games on the road. Nashville’s final home game will be May 10 against O’Fallon.
