Eugene John “Gene” Klosterhoff, 97, of South Hutchison, Kan., formerly of Nashville passed away at 2:30 a.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Mennonite Friendship Community.
He was born on October 22, 1919 in Addieville, the son of Raymond and Edna Breuer Klosterhoff. He married Kathleen Adelia Jane Friend on April 18, 1942 in Savannah, Ga., and she passed away on August 3, 2008.
Also preceding him in death were a daughter in law; Lynn Klosterhoff and two sisters; Marcie French and Fern Aubel.
Left to mourn his passing is a son; Dr. Bruce (Pat) Klosterhoff of Hutchison, Kan.; a brother, Ray (Marian) Klosterhoff of Arlington, Wash.; three granddaughters, Stephanie Hearth of Overland Park, Kan., Leslie (Jacob) Dalton of Centennial, Colo., and Erika (Anna Eaglin) Klosterhoff of Indianapolis, Ind.; two step-grandsons, Matt (Karla) Zamora and Tim (Maggie) Zamora both of Tucson, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Marla and Damon Heath, Thomas, Emilee and Ava Dalton; three step-great-grandchildren, Ryan, Karly and Elena Zamora.
Gene was a 1937 graduate of Nashville High School and attended the University of Illinois. He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the European-African Theater. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Combat Infantry Association. He always worked in the lumber management business. After retirement, Gene worked for the Mid America Lumberman’s Association for 10 years.
Cremation was performed, a memorial service will be held in July at Styninger Funeral Home in Nashville with inurnment to follow in Masonic Cemetery with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post #110. Memorial contributions may be made to the Continuing Care Fund at Mennonite Friendship Community.
