At 3:13 a.m. on Monday, May 29, the office of the Washington County Coroner was dispatched to the scene of a single car accident on Illinois State Route 160 approximately 3 miles west of Addieville.

Schwankhaus was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 3:30 a.m. by Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger.

Schwankhaus was operating a vehicle west bound on Route 160 when it left the north side of the road, striking a culvert.

No autopsy is planned, but toxicology samples were obtained by Coroner Styninger and submitted for testing.
