The Nashville Hornets baseball team swept a doubleheader this past week by defeating Mt. Vernon 7-4, and 5-1. The summer baseball team for Nashville plays a 22 game schedule, which concludes in early July.

In the first game of the double header, the Hornets fell behind early, but used a big fourth inning to defeat Mt. Vernon 7-4. Mt. Vernon got on the board early as they scratched across a run in the top of the first. Mt. Vernon would hold the lead until the fourth inning, when Nashville’s offense would come alive.

After the first two batters of the inning were retired, the Hornets got the rally started with a walk by Terry Pelczynski. Dale Anderson would single, before Todd Jahnke hit a two-RBI triple to give Nashville the lead. Bryce Bultman followed up the triple with a RBI single, and scored on a double by Carson Parker. Parker would come around to score on a single by Nick Paszkiewicz, to give Nashville a 5-1 lead.

The Hornets would quickly extend their lead in the fifth, as Kelton Harre singled to open up the frame, and would score on a RBI double by Pelczynski. Pelczynski would be thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple. After the next three batters reached base, the Hornets would score their final run of the game on a walk by Parker.

In the sixth, Mt. Vernon would rally, but the rally would fall short as Nashville took a 7-4 win.

In game two, the Hornets took the lead early and never looked back as they defeated Mt. Veron 5-1 in five innings to sweep the doubleheader.

After a scoreless first inning, the Hornets got on the board in the second, on a two RBI triple by Anderson. The Hornets weren’t done in the second as Bultman would walk, driving in another Nashville run. The Hornets would get their fourth run of the frame, when Dillon Herrmann would score on a wild pitch.

Mt. Vernon would cut the deficit to three in the third, as they picked up their only run of the game on a two-out walk by Anderson, who started the game for the Hornets.

Nashville would get the run back in the fourth, as Bultman drove home Parker with a RBI single to give the Hornets a 5-1 lead.

After coming in in relief in the fourth, Parker shut down Mt. Vernon in the top of the fifth, to close out the win for Nashville.
