Okawville School Board Approves Budget For 2017-2018 School Year

By Alex Johannes

The West Washington County Community Unit District #10 Board of Education met for an amended budget hearing and regular monthly meeting on the evening of Thursday, June 22.

Amended Budget Hearing

The board approved the amended budget for the 2017-2018 school year.

The biggest concern was the loss in funding for transportation due to the lack of funding from the state, as approximately $107,000 was lost.

Superintendent Scott Fuhrhop concluded that all of the funds are in the positives and the school district is financially stable.

Regular Meeting

According to Okawville High School Principal, Keith Senior, 91 percent of this year’s graduates are registered in junior colleges and universities.

The Okawville Rockets Baseball team and Okawville Lady Rockets Softball team have both received the IHSA Team Academic Achievement Award with a team GPA of 3.12 and 3.58, respectively.

Board member, Dennis Lintker, made a suggestion to level the track as a part of the summer maintenance to prevent water collection on its surface. Fuhrhop stated that he will look into resolving that issue.

Following the closed session of the meeting, the board of education accepted the resignations of Jon Kraus as the Okawville Junior High softball coach and Jackie Smith as the Okawville High School freshman/sophomore boys basketball coach.
