August “Augie” Voytas
August “Augie” Voytas, age 93, of Coulterville, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 12:23 a.m. in Sparta Community Hospital, Sparta.
Augie was born in Coulterville, on August 18, 1923, a son to Joseph and Mary (Sirotar) Voytas. He married Cecilia Amelia Epplin on July 18, 1952 in St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2000. He worked as a coal miner, farmer and livestock dealer. Augie loved his family. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors and friends and making wine. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Lively Grove.
Survivors include his three daughters, Victoria L. Voytas of Coulterville, Karla K. (David) Osman of Anna, and Donna L. (Robert) Stewart of Marissa; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Voytas of Marissa; six grandchildren, Jennifer Ferguson, Lacey (Jeremy) Schmersahl, Bradley (Lisa) Hoehner, Jamie (Jason) Thompson, Brady (Rachel) Stewart and A.J. Stewart (Dani Powers); seven great-grandchildren, Jalene Ferguson, Landen, Josephine and Quinnley Schmersahl, Lera and Jenna Hoehner and Caleb Thompson; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lucille Voytas, Shirley Epplin, Verna Epplin, Georgie and Frank Brazinski; and numerous caring nieces and nephews; and special friend Georgia Mezel.
Augie is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cecilia Voytas; son, Bernell “Bernie” Voytas; ten brothers and sisters; and two nephews, Ronnie Voytas and Larry Ramsey.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Lively Grove, on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Tadeusz J. Gegotek and Father Dennis Voss officiating. Interment will be held at Coulterville City Cemetery, Coulterville.
Friends may call at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Lively Grove, on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the church from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Coulterville City Cemetery, Tilden Senior Dinner or St. Anthony Catholic Church PSR.
