Vernon E. Nagel
Mr. Vernon E. Nagel of Nashville, IL departed this life at his residence on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 1:15 P.M. He had attained the age of 94 years, 6 months and 24 days.
Mr. Nagel was born on January 8, 1923 at Nashville, IL the son of Henry and Laura (Schwengels) Nagel. He was united in marriage to Ruth Speck for 33 years and they later divorced. He later remarried Theople “Opal” Sims for 26 years and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2005.
Vernon served with the United States Coast Guard from 1943 to 1945 and he was a masonary contractor for 33 years. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ Church, Masonic Lodge 55 AF/AM, Noah Shrine and Nuts and Bolts Shrine Club. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 110 where he served with the Military Honor Guard Funeral Detail and participated in many funeral services.
Left to mourn his passing is his son Kevin Nagel and wife Debbie of St. Charles, MO; his daughter, Shelley Harper and her husband Larry of Nashville, IL; four grandchildren, Wendy Morris, Ashley Mattes, Laurie Timmerberg and Patrick Harper; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Evans Nagel, and his sister Opal Kraus.
Per the wishes of Vernon and his family, his body was donated to the Southern Illinois College of Medicine in Carbondale, IL and Masonic services will be held at Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, IL on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 6 P.M..
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, IL on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 4 P.M. until 6 P.M.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital or the American Legion Post 110 Honor Guard and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
