Illinois Virtual High School

NCHS students now have the option to take classes online through the Illinois Virtual High School. Students may only register for virtual school classes that are not offered on campus at NCHS.  In no way will students be allowed to replace NCHS courses with those offered by IVHS. These courses are supplemental to the regular NCHS pathway of courses.  Students must maintain a minimum of (5) NCHS academic/elective classes in order to qualify for a course offered through IVHS. Students may also register for credit recovery courses through IVHS if they have enrolled, completed the full semester or year of the NCHS course and failed the course.

All enrollment procedures and cost shall be the responsibility of the parent/student.  Students will be required to make payment directly to IVHS for any courses taken. NCHS, however, maintains approval rights for classes taken.  Classes which fail to abide by the conditions of this policy shall not be recognized for credit by NCHS.

College Representative Visits at NCHS

Students who are interested in visiting with college representatives should come to the Counseling Office to sign up. Currently scheduled college representative visits:

Financial Aid Night

A representative from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) will be at NCHS on Thursday, September 21 at 7:00 to share information on the financial aid process for college. Grants, scholarships, and students loans are included as topics for discussion. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) will also be discussed in detail. All senior parents are encouraged to attend.

FAFSA Completion Night – NCHS

One of the first steps of the college financial aid process is completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form. The FAFSA enables students who qualify to receive federal/state grants, scholarships, as well as to participate in work-studies programs. NCHS will offer a free workshop to assist students and/or their parents in completing the FAFSA form. Those attending should bring the following information (if available): student’s driver’s license, student’s social security card, 2016 federal tax records for both the student and parents, records of untaxed income, and information regarding net worth of family and student assets. The workshop will be at NCHS on Wednesday, October 11from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The FAFSA form can be submitted beginning October 1, 2017.

Transition Visits:

There are excellent opportunities in the next months for students to make transition visits. Students interested in technical schools, junior colleges, armed services, universities, etc.. should consider the following days when Nashville High School is not in session or dismisses early: Friday, September 1 (11:30 Dismissal – Teacher In-Service); Monday, October 9 (Columbus Day); Wednesday, October 11 (School-Wide Testing Day – Seniors will not be in attendance); Thursday, October 19 (11:30 Dismissal – Parent/Teacher Conferences); Friday, October 20 (No School – Parent/Teacher Conferences); Friday, November 10 (Veteran’s Day), Wednesday, November 23 (Teacher Institute).

If you need assistance scheduling a visit, please contact Mrs. Maschhoff or Mrs. Luessenheide in the Counseling Office.

All students are encouraged to make transition visits. It is never too early to make visits, but juniors and seniors should especially take advantage of these days. As a reminder, if students are going to miss any school time for visits, they MUST fill out a “Request to Visit” form and return it to the Counseling Office at least two days in advance of the visit. “Request to Visit” forms may be obtained in the Counseling Office or from the school website on the Counseling Office page.

ACT Testing Dates:

The next ACT test with open registration is October 28. Registration is due by September 22. Additional ACT testing dates for the year are December 9, February 10, April 14, June19, and July 14. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.

SAT Testing Dates:

The next SAT test is October 7. Registration is due by September 8. Additional SAT testing dates for the year are November 4, December 2, March 10, May 5, and June 2. Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date. Students may register at www.collegeboard.org. Our high school code is 143-110.
